High Quality & Custom Design Decor
Q: Do I need to supply paint?
A: Paint is included within the quotation unless otherwise stated, J & M Shaw use Dulux Trade paint as standard.
Q: Do I need to do anything before you start?
A: Working areas need to be clear of any large objects for health and satefy. If coloured paint is to be used customers must confirm colour choice(s) before work starts.
Q: How long will it take you?
A: Approximate time scales can be included within the quotation if required.
Q: I have an idea can you do it?
A: J & M Shaw specialise in Custom Design Decor using colours to create 'one-off' designs. If you have an idea please contact us to discuss it further. Briefs are discussed on site and the customer supplied with a printed design to confirm before work starts.
Q: Do I have to use Dulux paint?
A: J & M Shaw recommend Dulux Trade paint or Glidden Trade paint for budget applications. If paint is supplied by the customer J & M Shaw take no responsibility for the quality of paint supplied.
Block Paving & Patio Restoration
Q: How long will it take to clean my drive?
A: If feeding from an on site water supply most average size drives/patios can be cleaned within a day. If feeding from our on board water supply cleaning times vary depending on size and condition.
Q: Do you use hot water, steam or cleaning products?
A: If oil is present an oil remover/lifter may be used, advice can be given upon quotation. Surfaces are cleaned with high cold water pressure only, no other products are used.
Q: Do you need access to an outside water tap or power point?
A: Our machines need to be fed from our on board system which can be filled from any water supply. If customers are on a water meter our on board system is NOT filled on site unless otherwise agreed.
Q: I have a large area to be cleaned is a discount available?
A: Costs for large areas vary depending on: condition, water supply, drainage, block type.
Q: What will I need to do after you've cleaned my drive/patio?
A: J & M Shaw offer a complete restoration service. This includes: the rotary jet cleaning of the surface, surface wash off with the pressure washer, weed suppressant treatment, block paving joints sanded (once fully dry), all surrounding surfaces washed off, all windows/doors cleaned. Any excess dirt/sand is also removed from site once cleaning is complete.
Q: Are the photos in the gallery of real drives/patios cleaned?
A: No images used are from third parties or have been altered in any way. Surfaces have not been made 'dirty' prior to cleaning. All images used are from previous projects undertaken by J & M Shaw.
Block Paving & Patio Sealing
Q: Does it work?
A: Sealing block paving eliminates weed growth, reduces moss growth and enhances the look of the block pavier both in finish and colour.
Q: Does it smell and how long does it take to dry?
A: During the curing process (30-60 mins) the sealer produces a low odur. Once fully cured no scent is present. In normal conditions the first coat is touch dry within 30 min, the second coat is touch dry within 30-60min. Sealed surfaces can accept foot trafic after 1 hour of completion of the final coat. We advise the use of vehicles no sooner than 24 hours after application.
Q: How long does it take to seal a drive?
A: The surrounding edges of the surface are cut in by brush. The sealer is applied to the main surface area via an industrial pressure sprayer. Sealing time scales vary depending on: block type, joint spacing, absorption.
Q: What sealer do you use?
A: Our resin sealers come in two finishes: satin or gloss. Satin finish is available for use on block paving only. Gloss finish is available for use on block paving, slabs, concrete and natural stone. Our sealers are obtained direct from the manufacturer for professional use only.
Q: My drive is on a slope, can it be sealed?
A: J & M Shaw advise againt sealing drives/patios of high gradient, on site evaluations are available.

Q: How soon can you give me a quote?
A: All quotations require an on site evaluation. J & M Shaw offer a free quotation service. On site evaluations are followed by a full written quotation.

Q: What forms of payment do you accept?
A: Cash, cheque or bank transfer (commercial only). Cheques are to be made payable to J & M Shaw.
Q: How long are your quotes valid for?
A: All quotations are valid for 28 days from the date printed. Commercial quotations do not include an expiry date.
Q: When do I pay you?
A: Invoices are to be paid upon completion. Commercial invoices include a 14 day payment period.
